Lost Throttle response
Posted by Graham Simmons on 9 April 2025 at 10:45Has anyone else had this problem with the phev, when accelerating onto Motorway/dual carriageway or just overtaking any where between 45-70 the throttle does not respond for 1-2 seconds and you have to lift you foot and then put back down in the hope it’s back again , not very nice when pulling into fast lane ,
vehicle has been to main dealership and the response was there is NO fault code , I checked the mileage and they never even took the car on road test
very seriously problem

Possibly related to how the ECU handles the switch between electric and petrol modes under load.
It’s really frustrating (and unsafe) when you don’t get immediate response in high-speed situations, so you’re definitely right to flag it.
As for the dealership — not doing a road test and claiming “no fault code” isn’t good enough. These kinds of issues often won’t trigger codes unless they’re persistent or cause a full fault. You might want to push for an actual test drive with a technician present so you can replicate it live.
Just a quick suggestion, see how it performs under sports mode?
I’ve been driving my PHEV on motorways for the past week and I haven’t faced this issue.

Hi
I have witnessed this also. When I hit the throttle to the floor it feels like something is holding the car back from accelerating. Keen to know what your dealer come up with as a fix.

Dealer told me as there is no stored codes there’s not a lot they could do , they didn’t even take the car for a test drive .
I’ve since reported that the fault occurs when accelerating to speed and it happens when the car transfers from Full electric power over to the petrol engine , there is a very noticeable loss of power for a few seconds .
This has been reported to Customer Service back in March but to date I’ve had no reply -

Guest18 May 2025 at 17:07Hi Forum 👋
I have read about this issue affecting mainly PHEV owners (I believe possibly that some non-PHEV owners may have confused the loss of power issue described here with not understanding that they may have ‘speed limiter’ switched on).
I found a fantastic explanation on another site for learning about speed limiters on Jaecoo – but this thread isn’t about that.
The loss of power at crucial times such as trying to overtake or speed up to match traffic speed as you join a motorway is a VERY serious issue in my book.
There are now do very many Jaecoo owner Facebook groups and on one I recall a PHEV owner posting a poll asking how many people had experienced this issue (to qualify the poll was only in one FB group as far as I am aware and at the time of the poll there were about 1,000 members).
When the poll closed 12% of people who had responded said they had experienced this loss of power issue.
Even though it was only a FB poll and not at all statistically valid it DID go to show that this is a shared problem… maybe not affecting all UK Jaecoo PHEV vehicles… but affecting a not insignificant number to warrant Jaecoo takes action and ownership of diagnosing the issue, finding out how to replicate the issue and work – without delay – on finding and rolling out a fix.
You don’t need me to labour the point that the consequence of loss of power is potentially dangerous… indeed very dangerous.
I recall one owner had said it had happened to them on the M25… can you imagine the stress and anxiety that that would have caused.
I am troubled that it appears (I have no way of validating this) that each person who has reported it to their dealer is being told much the same response as set out above… “no fault recorded” and do little or no further action taken by the individual dealers.
That simply is how, by lack of coordination, mistakes happen, errors go unreported and issues go unmanaged.
To say sudden loss of power could lead to a fatal accident is not over dramatising the situation.
Afterall, in the UK, the DVSA specifically cite ‘sudden loss of power’ as a potentially dangerous situation and that all such occurrences should be reported to the dealer AND to the DVSA,
I had said as much in one of the FB groups and supplied the DVSA website address but took it down having been harassed by some members of the FB group.
I was not, and am not now, trying to be alarmist nor am I seeking to damage the Jaecoo brand or their reputation – I simply want to have confidence that these cars are safe to drive… for me, for my family and for you and all road users.
Please reflect – if this bothers you report it to the DVSA.
The DVSA can provide the independent oversight that’s needed, in my opinion, rather than just the car dealer (or the manufacturer) on all matters concerning safety.
Here is the DVSA link that can be used to report the Jaecoo 7 loss of power fault…
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls-and-faults/report-a-serious-safety-defect
Reporting the power-loss issue to the DVSA will enable the DVSA to work with Jaecoo to confirm an accurate diagnosis of the root cause of the problem and the creation of a solution that will ensure driver (& occupant) safety.
FYI… DVSA definition of ‘A serious safety defect’ is something:
“about the way the vehicle is designed or made that’s likely to cause injury or death that happens suddenly and without warning”

I’ve had a similar issue with my Tucson hybrid ( not plug in ) I get the one or 2 second hesitation when trying to accelerate quickly to overtake, it is always while the engine takes over from the battery, I had a test drive in the j7 phev and tried the same manoeuvre on the motorway and had no trouble it just took off, I couldn’t tell if it was just on battery or if the engine kicked in.

Guest9 February 2026 at 20:32I have had this many times on my J7 PHEV. Always on a dual carriageway about 40-50mph and no response when overtaking or picking up speed. This is a real issue. I have been trying to work out what triggers it, today I had 40% battery left, I think previously it has been closer to 20 to 25% where it will be wanting to transition from battery to engine.
Also the heated seats just come on randomly mid journey.
The software is terrible and provides a very poor driver experience. I have had mine since June, I can’t wait until the 3yr lease is over so I can give it back!
