    Hi all.

I got my J7 Luxury yesterday (Christmas Eve). Dropped off by a dealer who told me she has never dropped a Jaecoo off before and didn’t really know what did what so that was not a good start and she didn’t want to stick around as it was Xmas eve so I have a few questions.

I apologise in advance for what may seem basic but I’m really stuck.

It’s a HEV. I’ve been driving around in in HEV and the petrol miles go down but the battery miles aren’t going up. Am I being stupid? I’ve driven a Volvo xc90 HEV and as I drove it, the battery went up. I thought this would do the same but it’s stuck at the same batter level.

    Secondly:

I went to the electric charger near home as I don’t yet have a granny charger. I was there 10 mins plugged in and it went up 1% and charged me 36p. Said initially 7hrs to full charge then it changed to 15hrs! The charger said 50kw on the app but the in-car display chaged between 0.5 and 1kw.

Any help would be greatly received as I’m baffled. Thank you.

    Hi Neil, <div>

I have a J7 PHEV, and I had to get used to the SHS hybrid system on the car, so basically, if your in HEV mode and your battery is say around 9 miles remaining, the petrol engine will do most of the work but it won’t charge the battery as you drive, it will just make sure the battery won’t deplete to 0%. I normally charge the car at home as it’s much cheaper then some of these fast charge stations which have cost me £15 for a full charge, it’s quicker then doing it at home though, but pricey, what I do is plug the car into a three pin plug overnight at home, and it takes around 7 hours to get around 54 miles from the battery. The max mileage that you should get from the J7 on a full charge should be around 57 miles.

    I hope that helps.

    Thanks.

I’ve got it in smart mode with HEV on now. Today I started off with 20 miles charge and was driving around to the shops etc. The battery got down to 3% and a message came up saying battery low and to put in Smart mode. I’m in smart mode already though. Is this right? Should it let itself get that low? It seems it’s only charging on the motorway with cruise control active.

If it’s in smart mode then yes, that’s the correct setting when the battery is low, but it should not ping if your already in smart mode, that’s strange, keep an eye on that.

On the 3% query, I asked AI and this is what I got if it helps at all.

    • Hybrid Efficiency: If you reached 3%, it likely means you were driving in EV (Pure Electric) Mode for a long period. Once it hits this low threshold, the car will automatically switch to HEV (Hybrid) Mode to protect the battery and maximize fuel efficiency.

Thanks, yes I was in smart mode so I wonder if it’s playing up. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this. I’m out again tomorrow so I’ll see how it goes.

    👍

No. Still no luck. The only way I can get it to recharge in smart mode is when I brake BUT I did put it in “forced” and it does charge when I drive but the petrol goes down pretty quickly which seems to defeat the purpose of the HEV. I just don’t understand what’s going on. I turned the heating off just in case that was affecting it but no. Think I might go to the dealership and see what they say as this cannot be right. I’m plugging the car in every night!

It sounds like something is not quite right, agree that it’s probably best to reach out to the dealership.
